The Boston Institutions: Legal Seafood & Parker House

Boston is known for their seafood. They make a mean clam chowder (much prefer it over the tomato-based manhattan clam chowder) and they invented Boston Cream Pie. I had the opportunity to visit both Legal Seafoods on the waterfront (the Massachusetts seafood empire) and The Parker House Hotel (the actual location where Boston Cream Pie was invented). While I enjoyed visiting both places, I found the seafood at The Daily Catch to be much more inventive and I wasn’t a big fan of the Boston Cream Pie, but that could be just me. However, for those who just want a simple seafood dinner of excellent quality, Legal is a good place to go.

You’ve probably had a version of these rolls at some point. They were invented here in the 1870′s and evidently the recipe was kept secret until Franklin Delano Roosevelt asked for the recipe in 1933. Tasty bread!

Decidedly not a fan of it, but here is The Boston Creme Pie at its birthplace in the Parker House Hotel
