I think the best part of keeping up with this blog is all of the really interesting people you can meet. For the longest time I used to just stop into a restaurant, sit down, order something and then discreetly shoot a picture of it. I still do that on occasion, but usually at places that I don’t expect to find something interesting. What I’ve realized since I’ve changed my M.O is that I missed out on quite a bit. Most business are very open to the prospect of having photographs taken of their food. Often it is the joy of food, the creation or just talking shop that creates the bond.
I gave a call to Matt Buschle at Virgil’s the night before I stopped in. He was cool with me coming in. The intent was to come in, take a few pictures, eat a bit of food and then head out. Instead we talked shop with Matt, a few of the chefs and a very entertaining and delightful bartender, who kept us drinking as well as had us sampling a few notable wines and liquors. This evening reminded me of why I love doing this blog and why it must continue.
